Canary Islands go to Rome to represent Spain

Nino Mireles & Román Dopico in the Spain´s Championships 2008

Román Dopico, a young player with only 18 y.o. and Nino Mireles are the couple from Canary Islands that together to other two couples more from Catalonia are going to represent Spain in the 1st WorldChampionships of Beach Tennis ITF in Rome, 4-6 May in the Foro Italico, the same scenario where in this moment is playing Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer and the rest of player the Master Series 1000.

Román and Nino are the couple number 19 ( in total 32 ) in the list of beach tennis ITF in the World. They are classified to this event as the second couple non italian behind of the couple of Belgium Johan Janssens.

They got the semifinal of Spain´s Championships this summer on September in Melilla. They were fourth in the Torredembarra´s international last summer too in September.

Nino was champion of Canary Islands in 2007 and runner up in 2008 together to Octavio. And Román was semifinalist of Canary Islands in 2008 together a Jose Perdomo.

First at all, they go to dispute in Fregene the weekend 2-3 May an international with a draw of 32 couples and a prize of 3500€. And in a row the will play the WorldChampionships in Rome the days 4, 5 and 6.

I hope we have luck,besides that we meet a lot of players of 14 nationalities.

These are the 14 countries that go to Rome to compite in the 1st WorldChampionships of Beach Tennis in the Foro Italico, the same scenario where Rafa Nadal, Roger Federer and company is competing the Master Serie 1000 of Rome.

In total The Men's Draw has 32 couples, the 24 best couples ITF in the world and 8 wild cards. In total the Women's Draw has 16 couples, the best 15 couples ITF and 1 wild card. The whole couples will be then 48 playing to get the title of Champion of the World of Beach Tennis ITF.

Felicidades a ApPROBA por la calidad del torneo de beach tennis del 1 al 3 de Mayo 2009

Desde esta página quiero hacer llegar al Centro de formación ApROBA mis felicitaciones por la calidad del evento de beach tennis que va a desarrollar este fin de semana en la playa de las Alcaravaneras. Como máximos responsables de los mismos felicitar a Octavio y a Chicho por la dirección del mencionado evento, y a los compañeros de su equipo de trabajo, Aroa, Iraya, Ale, Ángel y María por la buena labor que han desarrollado logrando una altísima calidad en este evento como lo demuestran varias factores.

En primer lugar va a ser el primer torneo disputado en Canarias hasta el momento en el que se instalan 5 pistas de beach tennis. Otro factor determinante de su calidad ha sido la fijación de una fecha para el sorteo con acceso abierto al público. Los premios son interesantes para las distintas categorías. Han tenido como mínimo un día de antelación las pistas montadas para el entrenamiento de cara a la competición.

Los grupos y los horarios de los partidos han sido fijados con suficiente tiempo de antelación de cara a que los participantes se puedan organizar con tiempo. Y por último y no menos importante, la participación de los jugadores ha sido muy buena, contando con 63 jugadores provenientes de distintas zonas, así como que hay de países extranjeros los siguientes:

Acceptance Lists for the 1st ITF Beach Tennis World Championships published in Rome

With the passing of the entry deadline, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Italian Tennis Federation (FIT) are pleased to release the Men's and Women's Acceptance Lists for the inaugural ITF Beach Tennis World Championships; to be held in Rome;

"The Eternal City", on 4th - 6th May 2009. An impressive fourteen (14) nations will be represented in this prestigious event in the Italian capital city: Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, San Marino, Slovenia and Spain.

The Men's Draw was inundated with entries leading to the ITF agreeing to increase the Draw Size to thirty-two (32) to accommodate as many players as possible. World No.1, Paolo Tazzari teaming up with World No.3, Luca Meliconi, will lead the Draw, where they can expect to face stiff competition, particularly from their Italian compatriots.

A number of players who, while not necessarily from nations with as strong a background in Beach Tennis, will also look to cause a few upsets using their experience from Tennis during their days on the Tour and Pro Circuits.

In the Women's Draw, the World No.1 pairing of Simona Briganti and Rosa Stefanelli, will be looking to cement their dominance on the Tour by adding to their already impressive haul of six career titles together, accounting for almost 50% of the titles won since the inception of the Beach Tennis Tour in 2008.

It is expected to be a tough test though for the Italian pairing, particularly with the entry of former WTA Tour tennis stars Olga Barabanschikova and Natalia Zvereva from Belarus. Also, the Brazilian pairing of Joana Cortez and Aline Sokolik, coming from a nation imbedded with a Beach Tennis culture, will also look to challenge for the title.

Champions of Catalonia 2007 and 2008 in a row, semifinalist of Spain 2006 and champions of Spain 2008. This strong couple comes from Torredembarra, the city where began the beach tennis in Spain more or less 30 years ago. They are instructor of tennis and they are very young, so they have an enormous future in beach tennis.

.

They both have a hard service and a techical play. We hope that with their participation in the 1st Worldchampionships ITF Beach Tennis in Rome, they can get great results to Spain. Besides they go accompaid with the best couple of Catalonia, Gemma & Eli.

Spain goes to Rome, what happened in Rome ?

Gemma Egea y Eli Durán in Las Palmas in Las Canteras´s beach

The champions of the internationals of Torredembarra ( Tarragona ) and Barcelona last year on September 2008 and runner up of Championships of Spain in Melilla will come to Rome and they will try in their third international win it again, as happened in the two previous.

.

They did a good tournament in Las Palmas de G.C. on March, 14-15, in fact, they was the only couple non italian that got the semifinal ( in the 3 categories ) of the great event. And they nearly get the final if the first set that they lost in tie break when they had gone in the score 6-5 for them and 40-0 serving Eli Durán. But the contrasted international experience of their rivals ( Bacchetta & Spazzoli ) could with them.

Besides they had the merit because since September 2008 they hadn´t played to beach tennis, it was the first time that they meet again with beach tennis. I augure to them in the WorldChampionships as one of the favourites to win it, together a Simona Briganti & Rossella Stefanelli.

S.Marino Republic to the capital of BT.....Rome

These are the champions ( Appioti & Bolognesi ) and the runner up ( Forcellini & Morosato ) in the last tournament international in Munich over the weekend of March 28th & 29th.

William from San Marino will play in Rome. He has a hard service as his strong point. He played in Davis Cup with his country. Consequently, he has a high standard in his touch. Nowadays he is the number 14 in the ranking ITF.

The dubt is if he will play with Christian Rosti, number 15 or well with Andrea Grassi, number 51, both from SMR.

The Czech Republic goes to Rome, Go to Rome!

Czech Republic goes straight to Rome as in the picture Dasa seems flying to hit the ball. Here in this picture she is together a Jan Pisecky, both the last year got the final of European´s Championships of Beach Tennis and lost against Christian Berardi & Laura Olivieri.

It will be a pleasure again meeting with Dasa. I met her in the international´s Prague on last December, 30-31 in the crazy beach tennis played in Tennis Center Kapitol. Dasa has a good services demonstrating that she is teacher of tennis.

Other women couple that confirm their participation in the World Championships of Beach Tennis ITF in Rome on May 4-6. They come from Belgium. Ann Cieters played last year with Kathy in the Barcelona´s international on September 2008 although she goes to Rome in this occasion with Karoline Stuyck.

We hope that Tom Verdoot and Johan Jansenss go to Rome too and they (men & women ) will demonstrate that the level of Belgium in beach tennis is growning. Anf if finally the brothers Vervaeke ( Christophe and Pascal ) go too, then they will set a high standard.

The couple german Oliver Munz and Alexander Bailer goes to Roma. This time they go alone without the company the good players women Simone and Corinna.

They are in fit after playing in Prague on December, in Las Palmas in the mid of March, in Munich at the end of March and now in the Foro Italico the 1st WorldChampionships of Beach Tennis ITF. I am sure they will representate to Germany keeping up the side.

If Spain and Germany meet in some round, this will be other opportunity to dispute older players against younger players and we would change the couples, so that always Germany or Spain will win the match. :-) do you like this deal?

3 events in Japan added to the calendar ITF BT

ITF Beach Tennis Tour is proud to introduce 3 new events in Japan that have been added to the 2009 calendar. First tournament will be held in Chita 30/31 May, followed by Atami 27/28 June and finally concludes in Miyazaki 11/12 July, all consisting of Men’s and Women’s Doubles events.

I want to give the wellcome to new Beach Tennis players as Laura from France that began to play with this nice group on Friday and continued on Saturday and today Sunday she have stayed in playing again. She is a student of the Physical Education degree and she is here through Erasmus Project. Other apart mention worths Ayesha, that she came before as spectator of beach tennis watching to her boyfriend Alex playing, and now she has began to play, Congratulations!

And if as I hope at the end, Antonio Martos and Ana encourage to try the next week, they will be wellcome to the group of beach tennis. Antonio and Ana in the morning of today Sunday, 19 April played a few minutes and they looked like playing beach tennis. Other boy, that tried playing a set against Christian Mireles, was Fernando, the first player from Canary Islands that was international with the Spain´s National team in beach football.

The Italians win again In Key Biscayne in Florida on 14-15 April

The World Champion beach tennis duo of Matteo Marighella and Alex Mingozzi (Italy) defeated former National Champs, Phil Whitesell and Chris Henderson (Charleston, SC) in the Men’s Pro division finals of the BTUSA Key Biscayne Open this weekend, 8-6. This was the fourth meeting for these rival teams, each ending with Italian victories. However, Sunday’s event was the first indication that Whitesell and Henderson are closing the gap on this overly-dominating pair..

Men’s and Women’s Pro teams from 11 countries competed at the two-day event at the site of the Sony Ericsson Open. Familiar faces included Ric Simeon and Nic Paalzow (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Brett Johnson and Mike Edison (Clearwater, FL), Heinz Haas (New York, NY), Sjoerd DeVries and Jochem Ros (Aruba), and Nadia Johnston and Nicole Melch (Long Beach, NY)..

One team of particular note was Thomas Hipp and Jan Macko (Miami, FL), who upset top-ranked Team Rhino, 8-6. Hipp and Macko, who made their beach tennis debuts last season at the Sunshine State Slam, showed some impressive staying power this weekend, fighting back from a 0-5 deficit to win six straight games, and ultimately the match.

In the Women’s Pro division finals, Federica Barccheita and Michela DelPasqua (Italy) defeated three-time National Champ, Nadia Johnston and her new partner, Nicole Melch, 8-6. Johnston and Melch, who dominated last month at the Clearwater Open, traded point for point with the Italians until Bacchetta and Del Pasqua widened the gap in the 13th game.

Former tennis star, Pablo Arraya, who has recently become involved with the growth of beach tennis in South Florida, was on hand to supply play-by-play for all of Sunday’s matches.BTUSA set up shop for nearly a full two weeks at The Ericsson, hosting a series of clinics, demonstrations, open play, and Cardio Tennis programs. This marked the groups third, and by far most successful visit to The Open.

ITF Beach Tennis Tour welcomes a new addition to the 2009 calendar. “Ziaja Open” will be staged in the seaside resort of Sopot, Poland from 21st to 26th July and will offer a prize money of 10.000$.

The tournament, which will include Men’s and Women’s Doubles events, will be organised by Radex Sport http://www.radexsport.com/ , in conjunction with the Polish Tennis Federation.

ITF launches the 1st Beach Tennis World Championships 2009 in Rome 4-6 May

The ITF has announced that the Italian Tennis Federation (FIT) will host the inaugural ITF Beach Tennis World Championships in Rome on 4-6 May 2009. The championships will be held at the historic Foro Italico, alongside the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour event being played in Rome the same week.

The Foro Italico was also the venue for the first ever tournament on the ITF Beach Tennis Tour in 2008. Beach tennis merges the disciplines of tennis and beach volleyball into a single sport. Predominantly played as doubles on a court of similar size to beach volleyball, players use paddle bats and a slightly depressurised tennis ball.

.

Regular tennis scoring is used, with no-advantage at deuce, no second serve and no let, and the ball does not bounce.The World Championships will be the showpiece event on a fast-expanding beach tennis calendar. Italy, Spain and Portugal hosted events on last year’s tour, but already in 2009 have been joined by tournaments in Poland, Germany and Japan.

.

It is expected that the 2009 ITF Beach Tennis Tour will offer total prize money of around 100,000 Euros. Acceptance for the 2009 Championships will be based on the latest ITF Beach Tennis World Rankings. A number of Italian teams will challenge for the title, led by 2008 ITF Beach Tennis Tour Champions, Marco Garavini and Paolo Tazzari, and Simona Briganti and Rossella Stefanelli, who topped the respective 2008 year-end world rankings after 15 events.

With Beach Tennis gaining popularity worldwide, wild cards will be awarded to teams from countries not yet competing regularly on the tour, whose players will have an opportunity to establish themselves on the ITF World Rankings in the coming months.

ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti said: “Beach Tennis is a unique and fun alternative way of playing the sport, which we hope will widen the appeal of the sport to players of all ages. We are delighted that the Beach Tennis Tour has already grown so quickly, and the World Championships, organised by the FIT will help attract additional interest in the sport.”

The progression of this young beach tennis player: Antomi Ramos from Canary Islands

Antomi in the First International Beach Tennis in Canary Islands in Las Palmas de G.C. in Las Canteras´s beach on March, 14-15

Antomi is a young Beach Tennis (BT) player with only 15 years old. He began to play BT two summers ago on July 2007 in the tournament of Volavi reaching the semifinal in the 3rd category in double men.

.

Soon he changed of partner and formed with Christian Mireles a solid couple winning in the next tournament of Volavi on July 2008 in the 3rd category in double men.

.

On September 2008, he played in the Barcelona´s international together to Nino and he got the final in consolation winning in semifinal to an italian couple and lost the final in the 3rd set in super tie break against Carlos Gunfaus and his partner.

.

On November 2008, he played together to Christian Mireles in the tournament of Approba in the 2nd category winning it.

.

On December 2008, he played in Prague forming couple with Octavio Santana, champion of Canary Islands 2007 and run up in 2008, and they got 3 games against Alessio De Paolis and Riccardo Gaia, and 1 game against Alex Mingozzi and Maurizio Di Cori.

.

Now in the next tournament of Aproba on May 2009 he is going to play at first time in the 1st category with Carlos Guerra as his partner. In spite of being neophite in this category, I augure they are one of my favourits to win it.
.

His strong point is his service and his strength of spirit. His service is very hard. You can appreciate that he comes from tennis, the good hand of his teacher Alfonso Pérez and Daniel Rodríguez is obvious.

.

I want to do a special mention to his parent that they give him all the posibilities to improve, Antomi as a friend our told me a few days ago, you should to kiss the places where they walk. Congratulation to your parents to be as they are, a great persons.

.

Jornadas de verano Playa de Las Alcaravaneras del 29 de Junio al 31 de Julio de 9 a 14 Dalipso

El Campus es una actividad de iniciación de los niños en el deporte, y al mismo tiempo, una faceta más dentro de su educación. Se trata de fomentar el compañerismo y la amistad a través del deporte.

En los campus deportivos de verano además de aprender y perfeccionar el deporte favorito, se fomentan la convivencia y el juego de equipo. Además se potencia el tiempo libre con actividades.

En Canarias disponemos de un marco perfecto para realizar actividades al aire libre en la playa y fomentar el deporte a través de este entorno tan nuestro.

Del 29 de Junio al 31 de Julio se organizarán unas jornadas diarias en la playa de Las Alcaravaneras en donde niños de entre 3 a 13 años disfrutarán de actividades deportivas variadas a lo largo de una jornada matinal de 9 a 14.

Los deportes a practicar son Beach Tennis, Beach Volley, Beach Football and Lucha Canaria. Dichas actividades están dirigidas por monitores titulados, con experiencia contrastada en dicho deporte.

I want to write only one article to this lovely couple, Giulia Spazzoli and Matteo Barbieri. I met him in Prague the last December together to Antomi and for us they was the charming couple of that tournament and in the next in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Here in Canary Islands, more exactly in Gran Canaria they won our affection, specially to the boys Antomi and Christian, me too. Congratulations to you to be as you are, a great persons. Giulia has a eternal smile in her face and Matteo a nobility in his person.

Besides to be a nice persons, they play fantastic to beach tennis, so that now I am thinking they are a little selfish, they want to have all to them, please share your kindness, nobility, smile and knowning about beach tennis to us. :-)

The ITF and FIT communicate that since 4 to 6 of May in the marvellous and suggestive installation of the Foro Italico held the First World´s Championships of Beach Tennis. The best players of our sport will dispute the title of Champion of the World. The competition has predict 2 categories: double men and double women. Every board is made up of 24 couples selected in base of international ranking and every couples admitted ( excluded those of the capital ) take advantage of complete hospitality and service of transport.

Finalmente è ufficiale! La Federazione mondiale (ITF) e la Federazione Italiana comunicano che dal 4 al 6 di maggio, nel meraviglioso e suggestivo impianto del Foro Italico, si terranno i primi campionati del mondo di beach tennis.

Durante gli Internazionali BNL d'Italia, in una apposita area dedicata alla nostra disciplina, con tre bellissimi campi dotati di tribune, i migliori giocatori e giocatrici del nostro sport si contenderanno il titolo di campioni del mondo.

Le gare previste sono due: doppio maschile e doppio femminile. Ogni tabellone è composto da 24 coppie selezionate in base al ranking internazionale e tutte le coppie ammesse (escluse quelle della capitale) usufruiranno di ospitalità completa e servizio di transportation.

Le iscrizioni dovranno pervenire entro il 24 aprile utilizzando l'apposito modulo allegato. Maggiori informazioni, come ad esempio il fact sheet, saranno disponibili nelle prossime ore sul sito www.itftennis.com/beachtennis

Si comunica anche che dal 25 aprile al 2 maggio, si svolgerà un torneo nazionale di beach tennis riservato a tutte le categorie, dagli NC ai prima categoria, con l'innovativa formula dei tabelloni a sezioni intermedia ed inoltre che il vincitore di questo torneo avrà una wild card per partecipare ai campionati mondiali.

First Tournament Beach Tennis in Dierhagen ( Baltic´s Coast Germany ) on 15-16 August 2009

We want to encourage you to participate in this first event of Beach Tennis in the Baltic´s Coast of Germany that my friend Annika Hofmann and her team is going to celebrate in order to promote this increasing sport that she tried at first time in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and she falled in love to this funny sport.

Beachtennis-Turnier auf Gran Canaria (17.3.2009)

Beim Turnier in Las Palmas auf Gran Canaria waren mehr als 60 Teilnehmer aus vier Ländern am Start. Erwartungsgemäß konnten sich in allen Wettbewerben die Italiener durchsetzen. Das Herrendoppel gewannen Alex Mingozzi und Matteo Marighella.

Bei den Damen waren Federica Bacchetta und Giulia Spazzoli. Sieger im Mixed wurde Federica Bacchetta mit Marco Scheda.

.

Das Doppel Oliver Munz und Alexander Stähle setzte sich in der ersten Runde gegen ein einheimisches Doppel durch und verlor dann äußerst unglücklich gegen eine Paarung aus Mallorca.

Alexander Bailer und Uwe Kropf hatten in der ersten Runde ebenfalls kein Glück im Champions-Tiebreak.

Desde el Centro de formación ApPROBA les complace a invitarles al OPEN de Gran Canaria de tenis playa 2009, a celebrar del 1 al 3 de mayo en la playa de Las Canteras. Ya está abierta la inscripción.

Fecha del torneo: del 1 al 3 de mayo de 2009.
Lugar: Playa de Las Canteras (zona de La Puntilla).

Torneo Amateur Beach Tennis en Cubelles el 11 de Abril de 2009 por el Club Nàutic de Cubelles

Se acerca el buen tiempo y con ello las nuevas iniciativas de torneos de beachtennis. La temporada empezó con nuestro primer torneo internacional de beach tennis, y ahora empiezan a haber iniciativas de torneos de diferentes ámbitos.

De nuevo, este año, desde la ciudad costera de Cubelles, Cataluña, se propone un torneo amateur de tenisplaya. Este torneo se celebrará aprovechando las vacaciones de Semana Santa el sábado día 11 de Abril a partir de las 10h de la mañana en el Club Nàutic de Cubelles.

El precio de la inscripción es de 15€ con comida incluída y en el caso de participar en una segunda categoría se debe abonar 5€ más. Disponéis de hasta el miércoles día 8 a las 20h para hacer la inscripción.

La organización anima a inscribirse a todas aquellas personas que quieran conocer el beachtennis así como a los jugadores habituales haciendo hincapié que en el momento de tramitar la inscripción notifiquen el nivel de juego ya que se realizarán dos cuadros diferenciados, uno amateur y otro más profesional.

World Cup Riccione Beach Tennis 2009 from 27th July to 2nd August

Vision, Rakkettone and Tom Caruso , a recent consortium of three importers of beach tennis racquets which will organize a Beach Tennis Tour throughout Italy in Summer 2009, among other goals.

Among other competitions, there will be an international tournament in Riccione (near Rimini) on the Adriatic Sea coast from 27th July to 2nd August. It is called “WORLD CUP RICCIONE BEACH TENNIS 2009”.

Every foreign nation willing to participate will be welcome. Everybody else willing to participate can choose amongst a list of hotels with convenient prices, duly discounted for the foreign teams. They are enclosing herewith the programme of the event.

Wellcome to the new Beach Tennis players

Carlos, Gonzalo, Wilson y Antomi in Las Alcaravaneras´s beach

We want to give the wellcome to the new players of beach tennis Wilson, Gonzalo, Eduardo, Carlos y Alberto that they will go far. Today Saturday they was playing since early in the morning and they will finish in the afternoon. I have been seeing them and they have a promising future.

Congratulacions to them, it seems they love this sport as we love it. They are going to play in the next local tournament in May since 1 to 3 in Las Canteras´beach and I augur them the success in the third category and inclusive far away in the second category in the double men.

On the other hand, a fantastic services on behalf of Gonzalo, Wilson and Carlos demostrating his high school of tennis in their hands. In spite of being neophytes in the beach tennis, they have just reached very quickly a good position in the court just like an agressive play.

Congratulations again, best luck to the tournament and have a funny time playing beach tennis,

We have confirmed the First WorldChampionships of beach tennis in Rome in the Foro Itálico on 4, 5, 6 May, in the same place where it has place the Master of tennis in Rome.The organization give you the advantage to transporting the players from the hotel to the fields.

Thanks to the organization. It will be a nice spectacle. I augur an enormous success so much in participating countries as in the quality of the players as the audience as the organization of the event. Tribute to my dear friend the journalist and tireless traveller italian Marco Ortolani

Marco Orlolani in the International of Beach Tennis in Las Palmas

I want to dedicate this article to ( "to" and not "for", "para" y no "por" :-) ) this lover of beach tennis, Marco Ortolani. I met him last year on December in Prague on the first International of Beach Tennis (BT). In fact we were going to play together in the double men but his unfortunately flue avoided it.

He is 41 years old ( I´m sorry Marco because now the women know the true ) and he is from Ravenna in the Adriatic´s Sea. His nickname is " The traveller " because he travells around the World seeing beach tennis competitions and he gives us updated news referred to BT.

My first impression was that he was so professional about what he writed through internet in his website http://www.ortoline.it/ concerned to BT. The time always gives or not the right. In this case the time confirmed me this first impression.

We again coincidence in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in the First International of BT in Las Canteras´s beach on 14-15 March and once more he has been still most professional with 3 articles about this tournament and one of them only about stadistics. Incredible his job!. Thanks a lot.

Oce more with the time he has improved his way of doing his job. Congratulations! Besides he kept his word in Prague that it was that in the next tournament to do something more difficult, writing and playing at same time. He played with Jose Perdomo in Las Palmas. You reached your task, congratulations again!

I am brave to saying that he is one of the persons that has more knowledge aboput BT. He has a computer in his brain.
